Rohishala is an important pause place along the pilgrimage circuit encircling Mt Shretrunjay, Palitana.
The Jains consider it as an important part of their religious belief and every Jain aspires to do this circuit at least once in their lifetime. This calls for a staying facility for the pilgrims.

Jain temples at Rohishala has a campus of ~10000 sq m overlooking the reservoir built on the Shetrunjay River. The narrow triangle site adjoining the temple campus was to be considered for the guest houses.

Shretrunjay mountain range surrounds the site on all three sides and one side is the river.

The design was based on response to water and massing.

View of the mulnayak (Adinathji Temple complex) atop the Shetrunjay hills, Hastagiri and waters of the Shetrujaya were important driving factor in laying out of the units.

Each unit was designed to have one or different families staying in a single block. The niche windows and arrival spaces volumetrically generate massing that connects to the religious places on the mountains.

Since it is a staying facility in a religious complex, it had to have its own spaces not disturbing the rituals of the temple.
